New design

As you can probably tell, I have a lovely layout and design! This is all thanks to Ana (TheOrdinaryPrincess) and I'm so happy my blog isn't just a rubbish title with some links underneath it. I will start writing proper reviews now, maybe some to go hand-in-hand with my YouTube book reviews (unknowableuniverse). I've got a couple of books in the runnings for me to read next so when I've finished them, expect reviews! (Both on here and YouTube)

The Summoning

The Summoning (Darkest Powers #1) by Kelley Armstrong

The story of how I came to read this book is quite interesting but I'm not going to go into it because I bet you, dear reader, don't care about how I found this book.

My name is Chloe Saunders and my life will never be the same again.
All I wanted was to make friends, meet boys, and keep on being ordinary. I don't even know what that means anymore. It all started on the day that I saw my first ghost - and the ghost saw me.
Now there are ghosts everywhere and they won't leave me alone. To top it all off, I somehow got myself locked up in Lyle House, a "special home" for troubled teens. Yet the home isn't what it seems. Don't tell anyone, but I think there might be more to my housemates than meets the eye. The question is, whose side are they on? it's up to me to figure out the dangerous secrets behind Lyle House... before its skeletons come back to haunt me.

When I read this book, for the first time I must add, I was 12/13. It was the second (ish) YA book I was properly into, after the House of Night series, and the mix of these books gave me that little shove I needed to divulge into the amazing world of YA fiction.

I was incredibly pleased with this book as a whole. The overall story was incredible, what with the teens having 'supernatural powers' and everything, and it was the first book of this type I read. (followed by stuff like Hunting Lila and my own spin on this genre)

Now, I don't want to spoil anything for you, so I'm just going to sum up the positives and negatives quickly:

Positive aspects:
  • Chloe, the narrator, is likeable as a character.
  • The setup of the story is brilliant.
  • The "sexual tension" between Chloe and Simon
  • The mysterious aspects are engaging

Negative aspects:
  • The way things are worded can sometimes get on your nerves. I feel this is written for either the younger age of YA readers or the less *this sounds horrible* "intellectual" members of the readership.
  • Some characters (like Tori) are slightly overdone with the meanness.

I give this book 4.2 stars and I thoroughly recommend it to anyone interested. (Be careful though, you will have to buy the second and third while you're at it.)

Where the hell have you been?

It's been over a month since my last post, and, to be honest, that post was pretty crap.

So, where have I been?

1. School (like most teenagers)
2. Writing (I have a new project and am quite a way into my sequel)
3. Reading (I have read a LOT)
4. Procrastinating (now, who hasn't?)

That is pretty much it. I would add more to this post, but I am officially bored as of right now.
